Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Felling Small Trees 0039-21 (formerly CS31)
This course is designed for Individuals who operate chainsaws as part of their work in arboriculture, forestry or other industries. It will provide the individual with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to fell and process small trees up to 380mm safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation.
Pre requisite: Must have chainsaw cross cut and maintenance qualification.
Course Objectives
We will cover risk assessment, emergency planning, legislation, industry best practice, environmental considerations, recognition of disease and decay, modification of felling methods, setting up supports, felling techniques and cuts, pre-start checks, site preparation, dealing with hung up trees, felling aid tools, branch removal, dealing with brash, cross-cutting timber to length, stacking timber and waste disposal.
By the end of the course, you will:

Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice.

Be able to work effectively and safely.

Know and be able to fell and process trees up to 380mm.

Know how and be able to remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw safely and within guidelines.

Know how and be able to take down hung-up trees safely.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Chainsaw Trousers – Class 1 type A (front protection) Chainsaw Boots, Head Protection – to include head, ear and eye protection and Chainsaw Gloves…all in good working order.
Equipment
Chainsaw (max guide bar of 15/16 inches), fuel/oil, maintenance tools, felling lever, timber tongs plus packed lunch and suitable wet weather clothing.
All equipment can be hired from us.
